We had the benefit, for the first time, of the excellent facilities of the Center for Creative Studies. Several new members were introduced, and scholarship award winner Victoria Demetriou (a CCS student) discussed her work. She described her fascination with sculpting objects that are the antithesis of what they represent: an inflated balloon rendered in bronze, for example, or a pillow in stone. Her tactile inclinations also extend to her painting, as illustrated by her image of bare feet soaked in the juice of the fruit they are squashing.
After Ms. Demetriou’s presentation, Erica Chappuis, Ruth Harvey, Rose Rhodes, Joya Rush-Keli, Kimberly Santini, and Gayle Watson (new member) displayed and discussed works both finished and in progress.
