Matie R. Robinson (1872-1974) painted still lifes and portraits and was well respected in the Detroit artist community. She did many commissioned portraits of people and pets, but she was most famous for her flowers and still lifes. Often interior decorators bought her larger pantings from galleries in the Detroit area, and even decorated a room around the painting. She used hand-carved wood frames that she commissioned for large oil paintings in the 1940s-1960s.

She was born in Constable, NY in 1872, married George Robson in 1903, had 2 children, 8 grandchildren, and died in Detroit at 102. She was sharp and up to date. She sold her work through the prestigious J.L. Hudson Dept store gallery and through the Hughes Gallery in the Detroit area.
