Kate Apple

I learn visually through color, texture, line, shape, pattern, and the way objects are organized. I wonder what I can do to create something new. I have to touch and feel and see.

I try to interpret the images I see to create art that is intriguing, layered, textural, beautiful, technically well done. I work to create art that is tempting to those who look closely. My goal is to draw my viewers in, to make them look closely at the detail, the colors, the layers and textures inside of what they see.

Being an artist is most fulfilling for me when I am not thinking. I’m in a space, focused, loose, and free. I feel easy. I trust my movements, my hunches, my non-thinking creativity. I’m open and confident. This is what I hope for each time I start a painting or drawing. It doesn’t aways work out this way! but knowing what it feels like when things are going well is why I keep trying. Even on a bad day, being an artist is a good thing!
