HOME features work from our membership that reflects the idea of home, whether a physical place, a city, objects within a space, individuals, or a group of people.
The exhibition isjuried by Amy Corle of MOCAD, formerly of the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. Dominic Pangborn awarded the prizes. A top five finalist at ArtPrize 2014 and a Detroiter since the mid-1970s, with studios here and in Chicago, New York and Tokyo, his design aesthetic over the years became synonymous with Metro Detroit.

"The History of the Detroit Society of Women Painters and Sculptors"
This presentation showcased the beginnings of the oldest women’s arts organization in Detroit. Information about why it was started and its place amongst Detroit’s early art culture.Dive into the fascinating history of the Detroit Society of Women Painters and Sculptors with Society President, Rybinski - Photos from DSWPS early days and the artwork of early members.
WORKSHOPS

Styrofoam Printmaking with Carolyn Sherwood & DSWPS members
Families can stop by and enjoy etching their own design into a Styrofoam template which will then be used to create prints. Instead of using ink, our volunteers will use poster paint on the templates for the children to make prints in assorted colors to take home.

Open Studio! with Tracy Irwin
After making a craft with your kids, move over to the open studio and view Tracy as she works on her most recent collage painting. Questions and conversation are encouraged.

Ink and Gouache Resist - Saturday March 4, 12-3.
A demonstration with a "make and take" component. This "old school" method of ink painting uses gouache as a resist, to create an ink outline on paper to be left "as is" or to embellish with watercolors. For examples see Jackie Rybinski's entries in this show.

Abstract Art with Carolyn Sherwood & DSWPS members
Children of all ages can join in the fun of creating one-of-a –kind Abstract pieces of art using paint, tape, colored pencils, crayons and more.

Ink and Gouache Resist with Jackie Rybinski
This is a “make and take” demonstration. The technique uses, gouache, and waterproof black ink on watercolor paper to create wonderful one-of-a-kind pieces of artwork.

Open Studio! with Emilie Beadle
This is a rare opportunity to view an artist at work. Stop in watch Emilie as she works on her most recent painting inspired by the city. Talk with the artist about her work and her process of painting with a palette knife.

Children will enjoy this project using heavy paper that can be cut into shapes or ripped into pieces. Poster paint and ink will be used in the printing process. This will be fun for all ages!
